Is anyone here a member of the Canadian Federation of Students? If so, would they be interested in drafting and submitting a (counter) motion to recognise the MRM and Men's Groups? I'm a former lecturer and I'd be happy to assist.

Edit: Anyone who has access to the CFS and is willing to submit a motion to recognise the MRM could do a lot worse than talking to some students or faculty staff with a background in peace studies / conflict resolution. They could turn out to be useful allies, and the mere act of publicly approaching such people would give useful kudos to the MRM.

I wonder if they have a corresponding policy for "Sexual Assault and Violence Against Men on Campus". I could suggest a few amendments to that policy that are a great deal more justified.

Their "whereas"es are a heap of hyperbolic and unprovable allegation, but their resolution wouldn't actually address any of the CAFE events that they are so upset about. I wonder about the second bullet point though, are they asking for extra special protection beyond what they are granted as citizens?

As one gay man, I'm always struck by the fact that I see more accusations of homophobia aimed at MRA groups than I've ever seen from any MRA. In fact, The only homophobic remark i've ever seen in this sub was one guy's halfhearted attempt to claimt he word "fag" wasn't a hateful term.

Read it just now. They aren't actually providing any proof of what they're saying. The way this is written, the writer(s) aren't trying to convince anybody, they're writing it in a way that shows they believe their interpretation to be a fact that cannot be disputed, to such a point where they don't even bother proving it.

This raises the question: what with those who do dispute it? Are they incriminated simply for questioning someone's beliefs? And what are the moral implications of doing so?

They're even implying the administration didn't do enough against MRA groups when asked to. The tone is very arrogant, implying they must do so if it's for the sake of fighting men.

They better be careful if those new guidelines go into effect. That is a sword that cuts both ways! They could quickly find their group terminated for intimidation...

The policy is being amended to include "The Federation opposes:

campaigns, forums, groups, meetings or events whose purpose is to frighten, intimidate and/or target women students on campus; and
the administration's lack of response to calls for public support and protection of students being threatened, stalked and/or attacked on campus"

I don't really see much of a problem with this, unless people start defining and MRA groups as fitting the first point.

This is the best reason to keep what you believe under wraps. Organize groups as secret societies, do it within our fraternity system where there aren't women. Lock the door and whisper rebellion. Use your organization to take over student-run bodies and do it quietly. We may not be able to fully negate the damage that the administration can cause, but we can minimize it.
