Having a daughter and/or wife really makes you care about how women are treated in society. They are both impactful relationships, but I want to focus more on daughters, because I feel that they are even more impactful in many ways, because you can't divorce your daughter, your love is unconditional, your bonded for life and your responsible for her well being.
I wonder if the delayed age of marriage and reduced child rearing in modern western society has led to the problems that are fueling the MRA/Feminism debate. You have grown men without daughters and wives and grown women, some nearing middle age without sons & husbands
When a man has a daughter, he begins to see women through his daughters eyes. Its now in his self interest to care about the opposite sex in a way he previously couldn't imagine. Anything that hurts women, hurts his daughter. His connection with his daughter is different than with other woman family members; because he is the primary caretake of his daughter. He wants to mold the world to be a nurturing cocoon for her. Laws that benefit women, benefit him. Unfair entitlements that benefit women, benefit him. Before he may have been a womanizing savage, barely recognizing the sentience of his numerous conquests. But now he may grimace when he see's any man mistreating woman in any way. His fatherhood has matured him and allowed him to empathize a universal way with the opposite sex.
Let's also imagine a woman who has lived 2 separate lives. One, where she is in her mid 30's and has only dated men ( probably with many failed relationships, and negative experiences). And another where she is in her mid 30's with 2 teenage sons. You can imagine her having a strong singular focus on women's rights in her first life. But in her second life as the mother of two sons', she has an incentive to make sure that things are fair for her sons. Her son's success will benefit her directly. She will be thinking more in terms of family, than of male vs female.
So what do you guys think? Has the delayed child rearing, reduced childbirth rates, declining marriage rates and breakdown of family structures created the mess we have today?
