Finally found a source for the gender proportion of NIH study subjects. Unfortunately it's from 1997.

So this is information that used to be easy to find on the internet, but has now become very difficult to find. If someone else can identify something more current please do. If you skip to page 16 there's a graphic that breaks it down pretty clearly. I remember reading an NIH source several years ago that showed women were the majority at about 65% since the 1980s.

I don't know any current sources, but I was at the NIH just last week with my sons' participating in a study specifically focused on men and boys, so it does happen, even if we are underrepresented.

My wife works at the NIH with kidney and prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is one area that can't focus on women. Doh!
