That was 25 fucking years ago. But rape is worse, because she was drunk and it lasted 5 minutes. No, I'm not trying to get into a war on who had it worse, but holy shit these guys basically lost every opportunity, every chance, every major year of their lives for what? Being born with a penis? The wrong skin color? They not only had their lives destroyed, but any chance at making a life for themselves afterwards.

To put shit into perspective, 25 years before they were convicted, we promised to put people on the moon, and then did it. Now my car, computer, and phone know exactly where I am in the world thanks to GPS. They lost a major part of their lives, and every opportunity afterwards.

I'm going to copy and paste from the other thread where this is discussed because it is in such poor taste to call this a false accusation, and I want you to know why. I recommend you acquaint yourself with this story before making such sweeping generalizations about a horrific crime. Horrific for the rape victim, and also horrific for the young minority men who were falsely convicted.

This is disgusting. This is not a false accusation, but false convictions due to racism and mismanagement of the investigation. I am sick to my stomach this is labeled as a false accusation as if the victim is somehow at fault.

The 28-year-old investment banker Trisha Meili was violently assaulted while jogging in the park. She was raped and beaten almost to death. When found about four hours later at 1:30 am, she was suffering from severe hypothermia and blood loss from multiple lacerations and internal bleeding, and her skull had been fractured so badly that her left eye was removed from the socket. The initial medical prognosis was that she would die or, at best, remain in a permanent coma due to her injuries. Remarkably, she largely recovered, with some lingering disabilities related to balance and loss of vision. As a result of the severe trauma, she had no memory of the attack or of any events up to an hour before the assault.

Edit: I am glad these innocent men are getting reparations. They had their youth stolen from them. But seriously, I am still beside myself at the use of "false accusation"

I am going to emphasize that she never accused these 5 men of raping her as she suffered memory loss from the trauma.
