A: Your first statement is flawed. There are plenty of species where the role is reversed. Trying to compare human current evolution to animals is underminded by the simple fact of how complex human beings have become.

B: Your second statement is because of a massive shift in social reform back in the 70's that changed how society sees gender roles. There are so many factors to this that there is no simple answer.

My opinion is that a major influencer is the government giving too much aid to single mothers, to a point where people are now abusing it.
