Practically given up watching recent TV series and movies. As a straight, white male who had no ax to grind I now have a hefty ax to grind. This is due to:

  • Female lead or co-lead characters have no sense of humor. A 'strong' female character shows her strength by always being right, by always acting superior to male characters and who's characters have to have major attitude as being anything less than a miserable beach is being weak. Oh and they can kick the crap out of 300lb MMA fighters!
  • In a show or movie where the main cast is male, when a new female character is introduced to this 'patriarchy', she always proves herself by overcoming great odds and finally winning the respect of the rest of the team by being so great.
  • In any TV show or movie where the characters are being bumped off one at a time, the surviving character will always be female.
  • If a female character is a villain, she has become a villain because of being abused by a man years earlier (he made her go dutch in a restaurant). When the main character discovers the awful torment she's gone through, it's love and understanding all round and aren't men such SOBs?
  • Male heroes are so last year. Marvel has turned from a company that released a bunch of great moves to one that considers being WOKE as the only way to go.
  • The female lead character in Star Trek Discovery is called Michael, who's gender is debatable and who kicks ass and takes names every chance she gets. Note that Discovery is the only Star Trek series where the captain is not the central character. I think that the producers should have been more honest and called it Star Trek: Woke.

All the above have bugged me for some time and made me more resentful of an industry that is increasingly making straight, white males the source of all evil. I have always considered myself a fair-minded person but becoming more aware of the media's agendas has soured me more and more. I tend to watch a lot of cheapo horror movies because even though the survivor is always female, their audience just wants thrills and chills and have no time for that woke crap. Cheapo horrors and 70's crime movies, the only way to go if you refuse to roll over.

I should add that I have no problem with strong female characters that are NOT assholes. The X-Files and Fringe has strong female leads who it is easy to respect because there is no agenda, just well drawn, believable characters. I would say that Lost is another series where the female characters were 3 dimensional and likable yet strong. I guess female characters like those in the above shows are now a thing of the past.
