Hello. I figured this would be the best place to turn to for some advice.

To clarify, I'm a woman from Florida, who has been in an amazing relationship with a wonderful man. He's the best person anyone could ever ask for, and that's part of the reason why I'm here. We are not married, but we have been living with each other for a year, and were kind of dating on the down low for three, almost four years now.

I found out I was pregnant the 23rd of March, and I'm due the 24th of April (two weeks from now). Because I have no insurance, I've had to wait for prenatal care until the last minute, and I'm desperately trying to get help with that.

He gets SSI, and we've both been trying to get jobs for months now. I MIGHT have a job lined up to start after I deliver, but there's no guarantee.

We're both worried about CPS. Me because of my lack of prenatal care. Him because he has a criminal record (blanket trespassing from when he was homeless, and fighting when he was younger) paired with him getting SSI for a mental disorder (they diagnosed him with sociopathy as a child, which is generally against the law. Besides, he couldn't manipulate his way out of a paper bag.). He's seen friends who were couples have their children taken away no matter how well they were living because the father's status was similar to his, and he's terrified that it will happen to us. Mind you, the mothers were told to choose between giving up the father (and signing a restraining order and/or sending him to prison, usually) or giving up the child. We've discussed what we would do if the worst did happen. If CPS did do something like that... I'll keep the child. I hate it, he hates it, but it's the choice we both made and agree on; anything's better than ending up with our child in the foster system. He's been in it, and I know plenty of other people who've been in it as well. We won't subject our child to that horror.

So here's what I came to ask:

What can I do to keep CPS off of us? What can I do to keep him safe? Is there anything, ANYTHING, we/I can to to keep them from taking him away and still keep our child? If we do end up in our worst-case scenario, what can I do to ensure that minimal damage is done?
