Hey there. I’m new to the sub, I didn’t really know where else to turn. When I was in middle school I was diagnosed with severe ADHD, and it really hindered my ability to function normally in social situations. Even to this day (in college) I still struggle despite my heavy medication. Since I live on campus my parents can’t really do much (believe me they were unbelievably supportive and did everything they could to help me when I lived with them).

This is where my problem starts. Since my middle school days I’ve made various attempts to get advice from the school counselors regarding my social skills, because my inability stressed me out and eventually led me to get medically diagnosed with anxiety. Every time I go to a counselor I’m told to “not let it bother me” or to “grow thicker skin”, because I shouldn’t be getting upset over not being able to socially interact on a normal level apparently.

I ran into the same thing when trying to seek advice from the support center at my college. No tips, nothing. Just the same tired garbage. What should I do? Thanks for reading.
