This is actually quite tragic in the effect that feminism has had on this young man's mind. A good man, who simply wants to live well as a man and live a truly good life is reduced to bitter self-denial and feeling the world would be better if he didn't exist. He would ordinarily be the very best we have. Self-effacing, restrained, altruistic and noble in his concern for the public good. Yet here he is, reduced to a quivering wreck, ashamed of his very existence.

I don't think the attitude on that tumblr post is necessarily feminist. It sounds like that lady just got in a fucked up situation and now views all men as a threat in one way or another.

The lady's reasoning sounds like it comes from PTSD. No woman I know (not even feminist) seems to go through public spaces thinking everybody's going to rape them, only the crazies think that. Jeez, I like this subreddit because I think men's rights are important but it's goes too far when it names crazy reasoning such as this as "feminism." I feel like this subreddit is more about focusing on the few worst examples of feminism and labeling them as what it is, when in reality feminism is much more varied and complex than what this subreddit portrays it as. People here hold more feminist views than they think they do because they haven't even done some simple research on the very subject they're bashing. Feminism is the view that women should have the same rights as men: that's it. There's nothing else. It doesn't mean men should have less rights than women.

Any woman who feels she deserves more rights than someone else because of her gender isn't a feminist. We already have another word for that. It's called sexism.

I'm not saying there aren't various forms of discrimination in the social movement. A lot of women of color are found to be underrepresented in this movement and so are trans women. And, yes, there is way too little room for men in the movement. Though that's partially due to the fact that there's too limited a demographic championing the feminist cause. (White, middle/upper class women.) If more men studied and contributed to the conversation on gender equality, I think you would find less to gripe about in this sub.

A lot of social movements have problems with accepting people outside of their group. Many black churches, powerhouses of advancing equal rights and eliminating racism, can run into problems integrating gays into their movements because of their religious beliefs. Does that mean we denounce them totally and demonize them? No. I don't see an anti-black-advancement group run by homosexuals. That's because their overall message is still great. Equal rights for all are great. Social movements run into aggravating contradictions at times I know, they have to figure out things as they go and sort them out. And it's great to point out their flaws as this subreddit is so apt to do. But totally denouncing them because of one fucking little straw-man is even more contradictory because then there is no chance for progress. God forbid, you may find some good in their philosophy if you were to study it.

TLDR; That's what this subreddit should be about: eliminating sexism, not bashing feminists for what they're not. Grumble grumble use proper language... grumble uninformed use of terms... grumble.
