This issue comes from a (deliberate?) misinterpretation of a statement by director Bernardo Bertolucci during an interview. He said that he and Brando decided together how the scene would be shot, and didn't tell actress Maria Schneider about to elicit "genuine" reaction from her.

In context, he was talking about the script change for Brando to grab a stick of butter to use for lubricant...out of context, the SJWs decided it must have meant they decided to throw in a "rape scene" without warning the actress, resulting in Schneider sobbing and crying believing she was actually being sexually assaulted.

Bertolucci has since been very clear about what he was talking about, and the fact that the entire scene was scripted and rehearsed...minus a pat of butter...it was not a surprise to anyone.

Keep in mind that the faux outrage over this movie completely overlooks and discounts the fact that the end scene involves Schneider murdering Brando's character when she becomes bored with the relationship, and rehearsing what her false narrative to the police will be to excuse it.

Sorry, I agree with some of the posts here, but I genuinely don't understand how doing that with a stick of butter, without discussing it with her first, doesn't count as sexual assault. Can you explain it please.
