In summary then: For rights to get signed into law, then continue to exist in a political context(precisely speaking, everyone's got the right to do whatever the hell they want. Whether or not their exercise of that right is moral or sane is another matter entirely), whoever is agitating for said rights has to persuade a substantial portion of their fellow citizens that it's in their own best interest to support a revision of law and policy. Even if, frequently enough, that substantial portion of citizens's motives for supporting the revision of law and policy is very different from the motivations of the agitators who are pursuing the reforms in question

It's highly unlikely that we're going to achieve shared parenting legislation, an end to a drug war which disproportionately imprisons men, greater access to vocational training, an abolishment of Title IX Star Chambers, etc etc, as long as MRAs keep using rationales which reek of the sort of identity politics they so often chide feminists for employing, such as this quote from the lecture linked above: "This is fine if they are intending to attack individual autonomy in general, but we must look more carefully if we actually want to get to the root of the problems facing men, as men, today – which, I would argue, coalesce into the deprivation of male autonomy. It is modernity, and particularly Enlightenment thought, which made individual autonomy a possibility – and it is social liberalism, and most especially feminism, which are turning it into an impossibility for men."

If we're serious about securing some improvement to our material fortunes, we've got to stop emulating the sort of solipsism that's rampant among feminists(who speak of everything in gendered terms, like "women's autonomy"), and instead emphasize that our fight is one that seeks to enhance the freedom of all Americans to be themselves and true their consciences, men AND women alike
