This is how I feel to this day. It permanently scarred me. I feel bad for him, maybe if he had known this from someone he could've been here. This must have scarred his mother too. People are really really bad. And there are no words that can define my anger. Maybe I will have to do the same someday.

I hope not. I hope you take care of yourself and talk to someone about how you feel if you feel comfortable doing that.

I wish that too. I have tried that, didn't worked for me.

It may be you didn't have the right therapist/councilor/psychiatrist. I went through a couple before I found the right person to help me.

At the moment, I cant afford therapy. SO, it might take some time.

[–]CyanHakeChill 38 points39 points40 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

So what has happened to the false accuser? Is she in jail? What is her name?

[–]BringTheFingerBack 18 points19 points20 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I think you already know the answer. I have to admit I do agree with the logic that if woman start getting convicted it will stop woman coming forward to report rapes. The whole thing will remain a shitshows until issues are allowed to be discussed at the borders and no just a 'whos side are you on' type shouting match

[–]bufedad 6 points7 points8 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I have to admit I do agree with the logic that if woman start getting convicted it will stop woman coming forward to report rapes.

Why? If we prosecute false accusers, it would give more credibility to those accusations that are brought.

It WILL, however, stop women from reporting false accusations as much...

This is the first national media report on this case - it’s almost certainly only made national headlines now thanks to people sharing the story.

[+]ObviousObservationz -19 points-18 points-17 points 5 years ago* (12 children) | Copy Link

Being found not guilty is not that same as a false accusation.

No one will ever know if he was guilty or if it was a false accusation. But accusations caused this man to take his own life. Accusing a woman of lying about the rape without evidence to support that is just as bad.

Edit: I'll never understand why thinking men and women should be innocent until proven guilty gets downvotes.

[–]PeonSupreme 19 points20 points21 points 5 years ago* (7 children) | Copy Link

Oh so you mean she’s innocent until proven guilty? Man, that must be nice.

Edit: you’re being downvoted because the criminal justice system does not treat men and women equally in even the faintest sense. Just look up “sentencing disparities by gender” and you’ll see what I’m talking about.

Edit: here, I did it for you:

sentencing disparities by gender

[+]ObviousObservationz -16 points-15 points-14 points 5 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Yes. I wish this man recieved the same treatment. Alas he didn't and he ended up dead. So why is this article and many people doing the same thing to the woman by declaring her allegations false?

[–]PeonSupreme 14 points15 points16 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I am more concerned — outraged, actually — about the fact that a man took his own life even after being acquitted of rape because he could not take the stigma of being accused and having his name splashed across the headlines than I am about the possibility that a cloud of ill will and suspicion might hang over the woman who accused him but who remains alive and anonymous.

[+]ObviousObservationz -12 points-11 points-10 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Then society needs to be better about not treating people as guilty when they have not been convicted yet. Men shouldn't be treated as rapists based on accusations and women shouldn't be treated as false accusers based on accusations.

So articles claiming false allegations without proof like the one you shared literally go against the very concept of not judging people before they are convicted.

Just seems kind of hypocritical to me.

[–]PeonSupreme 5 points6 points7 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Whatever stigma attaches to a woman seen as a potential false accuser is nothing compared to the stigma that attaches to a man seen as a potential rapist. As this story and many others show, the stigma of merely having been accused stays with a man even after he’s acquitted.

I have no idea how to end that stigma. That would require an enormous cultural shift, the impetus for which seems to be lacking.

I can think of at least a couple more modest changes that would at least make things more fair for men accused of rape. First, remove the unequal protections afforded to women who accuse men of rape and treat them the same way you would treat anyone else who accuses someone of a crime. Second, the UK government should remove the utterly perverse incentive women have to accuse men of rape by paying them thousands of pounds simply for making the accusation.

Until these and other changes are made, I will continue to focus my energies on men falsely accused of rape, as well as the legal system and the wider culture that fails them.

[–]ObviousObservationz 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

A worthy goal and I wish you the best of luck. I just don't think declaring someone guilty without a trial is the way to achieve that goal. I think it will just make the problem worse.

[–]Bonesteel50 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Last I knew, allegations had to be proven not disproven. Her allegations ARE false, until they are proven.

[–]BringTheFingerBack -2 points-1 points0 points 5 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

I agree with you in theory, the whole thing should be discussed openly and I hope you dont get banned from this sub-reddit or any other men's sub-reddit you have been posting on. I have made points similar to yours on the feminist and whitepeopletwitter and was banned instantly. I have noticed however you are only posting your thoughts in the men's sub-reddit, and not sharing your views about understanding over in the more female sub-reddits. Do you not feel that they need to know that everyone is innocent until proven guilty?

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Do you think now is the time to make this point? Or do you think you did it in the wrong way? Do you think a comment like that might upset others (like me) who have been falsely accused? Do you think I'm valid in downvoting you because the point, despite me agreeing with it overall, is done in a dismissive and insensitive way?

I'll never understand how it's incomprehensible to some that words have impact

[–]ObviousObservationz -5 points-4 points-3 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Standing up for people to be innocent until proven guilty isnt something you do occasionally. Its something that needs to be upheld all the time.

Its NEVER okay to declare someone guilty without a fair trial. False accusations ruin lives. So I will continue to defend those that have been falsely accused even if you feel otherwise.

Words do have an impact, which is why we should not be declaring people guilty of heinous crimes without any trial or evidence.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I agree, but if you read my post... My issue is with tone.

Because your in the moral high ground do you think you don't need to express your opinions in a way that's sensitive to people like me?

Do I have a right to feel that your saying your point.. which... As I said that I agree with overall... In a dismissive and insensitive way?

Do I have a right to feel that way and downvote you?

Because it seems like your saying I dont.

[–]bufedad 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Being found not guilty is not that same as a false accusation.

And this... right here is why he killed himself.

Because no matter how much evidence of his innocence exists, people like you will always believe he could be guilty and a rapist.
