Um, gender-based violence against men is probably at least as often about men conforming to gendered expectations--especially the expectation to be women's or society's proxy dispenser/absorber of violence. A man who gets his ass kicked because his girlfriend picked a fight with a stranger at a bar, or mouthed off to a drug dealer, is fulfilling his prescribed role as his gf's walking kevlar vest. How is that not gender-based?

Would an analysis of gender-based violence against women ONLY consider, say, lesbians, transgendereds, masculine women, or other women who did not conform to pervasive expectations of female behavior or identity?
