I feel like I read the adult version of stone soup... But instead of stones, the tools for suicide were the inspiration.

There was a lot of life in the read, but the existence of the "stones" were the reason why the soup was not enjoyed, even by the chef. Unfortunately there are a lot of things in life we don't do say or communicate because people can leave us for it. And the dog Cowboy illustrates that. Even the people interacting with him making comparisons to him are only doing it because they can make light of it and not have their observations be weighed heavily as they would if they were made directly to him.

In life a lot of people don't understand how important some issues are to us, and instead of alleviate those issues, they multiply them. A suicidal person losing friends because he's suicidal is like a virgin losing opportunities for sex because they're a virgin, or an incel being socially outcast because they're a social outcast.

I remember a friend I had when I was 17, I was poor as all hell and most people made that a huge reason why they wouldn't stay my friend. I tried to fix myself and came back. "Oh, I thought you would have killed yourself by now." I'm not really of that type of thought, but the idea that someone could be aware of that flaw and then stab and turn the blade fervorously... I couldn't be their friend anymore.

It's kind of an elephant in the room that only mature people can speak of. And for most people who have something about them that ruins everything, they have to suppress it because people can't handle that information. And if you DO bring it up, you have to hope you don't tip the scales in someone's mind for the next person. The guy that's too short, poor, sad, lonely, insecure, hurt, traumatized, etc. To the point society is where they stop caring or insult victims of those feelings.

But if you can't share any of it, where do you put it? In the soup. I'd imagine in a literary sense there were a lot of sheathed weapons in that read. Cushioned as much as possible so people don't click away... When nobody wants to hear your story, you have to write it in a way where people feel okay to read it. Like a YouTuber trading his authenticity for viewership. 0 views for the truth, or 1,000 for entertainment satire? Choice is obvious. Lies with hidden truths being understood is still worth more than a truth nobody understands. I'm not saying the author is a liar, but his delivery is very soft given the topic. Most people aren't good enough to say things without hitting nerves as hard as they should be.
