  • "Should future circumstances become so dire that a draft is required, it is in the national security interest of the United States to be able to draw on the best talent in the country for military service," the commission's report said. "Roughly doubling the pool from which the Nation might obtain conscripts would improve military readiness by raising the quality of those who might serve, as some women would be more qualified to serve than some men."

There you have it.

When Carter reinstated the draft, he included women, but the outcry from women and feminists was deafening and congress backed down on including women in the draft. I don't expect anything different today if congress moves to include women in the draft.

  • The expansion of draft eligibility is only part of the commission's recommendations for increasing participation in national service. They recommend a "revolutionary and inclusive approach to service" comprising "comprehensive civic education and service learning starting in kindergarten, service-year opportunities so ubiquitous that service becomes a rite of passage for millions of young adults, and new and revitalized service options for adults of any age, background, or experience.

Lovely. The military would be in all school grades recruiting.

Not surprised. Of course they won't want. Do women think we men want this? Nope.

[–]PINHEADLARRY5 11 points12 points13 points 6 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

All for women wanting to serve the country. I did not serve and so have no idea what sort of physical and mental demands it entails. But there are some fantastic podcasts with enlisted men and women talking about women in combat roles. I wish I had links on hand but a quick YouTube search will come up with dozens. Worth a look if y'all are interested.

A TL;Didn't Google, from what I've seen, is that women suffer greatly in keeping up with the fitness requirements. There was one study done by the navy regarding emergency procedures when the ship is sinking, and women recruits failed like 99% of the time on most of them, while male recruits failed less than 5-10% of the time.

IIRC, they found women had roughly 50-60% upper body strength and ~70% lower body strength of men. There's a whole host of studies that get buried relating to this.

It makes perfect sense to allow / integrate women into roles that don't require physicality (administration, some piloting roles, etc). However, lowering physical standards and pushing women into combat roles is going to get people killed.

[–]PINHEADLARRY5 6 points7 points8 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

The general consensus with the ladies that were on the podcasts said that they did suffer more dramatic orthopaedic injuries. Most of them had concerns about the modified requirements too. But it's a small sample. I urge people to watch the podcasts though. Difficult to summise a difficult subject.

It's worth noting that even male armed forces members (with their increased bone density over their female counterparts) frequently suffer long-term orthopedic issues from the training and requirements. A lot of dudes in their late 20's / early 30's with arthritic knees, etc.

Buddy of mine who served say most of his buddies have injuries that they are going to be problems later.

Piloting a jet fighter requires operating in high-G situations, physical ability is essential. Now maybe flying cargo or passengers does not require physical ability, but we've already lost one F-14 putting a women into a seat she was not qualified for.

[–]asdfman2000 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Agreed - I should have said "some piloting roles". I'd heard the high-G issue before but haven't heard much about it compared to the issues of ground pounder training issues and injuries.

Everywhere, MSM the female warrior is pushed as at least equally strong as any male. I say let this generation of strong independent women be forced into the same horror of combat young men have been forced in.

Nah, let's not. I'd say go for it if the only people suffering are the idiots pushing the idiocy, but that's not who will die. The people who will suffer will be the other few hundred sailors on their sinking boat. It'll be the infantryman bleeding out because his squadmate couldn't pick him up or carry him more than a few feet. Or the servicewomen themselves, told all their lives that biology is a lie and then put into situations they were left utterly unprepared for by politicians looking to score points.

Our military isn't like pre-20th century militaries where more bodies = more offensive power. There's a huge amount of training and support that goes into each guy on the ground, and quantity is not replacement for quality.

I agree almost fully with everything you said. Especially the last sentence. But with people crying about equality I don't know what other option there is.

[–]White_Mlungu_Capital 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Give them all female units, I heard in a book the amazonian warriors were good, so maybe it will work for them. If they all get killed at leas they won't take the men who are winning the war down with them.

[–]asdfman2000 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That's not how war works. You don't leave a unit out there to die and not support them if they start losing.

[–]White_Mlungu_Capital 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

O yes, it is, if they can't win and they lose, let em die while the other units are off winning.

[–]abaddon2025 5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is brilliant news, and hopefully it’s gets passed.

[–]Lion_amongst_gods 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is what I don't understand. Even in the circumstance of a law being extremely misandric, changing it requires projecting it as a woman's issue? Why can't you do something for the sake of its own merit?

[–]White_Mlungu_Capital 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Women rights must not be abridged, it is necessary women have the right to fight and die in the nations wars just like men and have their burning bodies dragged and beaten through the streets of Baghdad and Kabul just like US men.

I have absolutely no objection. As a true egalitarian I see no problem with a general draft. In time of war everyone can and should do their best to save their own country and nation.

My mother during communism was in the army. It was mandatory for women too! No if's no butts!

Starting from high school years you get "Patriotic Training". Boys got 3 months, girls 2. Then later, before and after university, was the conscription time.

You go go to uni, you get less time in the military. You don't go, you're in for the full time. Women got smaller time but was mandatory nonetheless.

My mother had training, shooting with AK74, but the girls don't had to trow grenades (I've seen girls trowing stuff, the military was not stupid) and they had no heavy weapons like RPKs , RPGs and PSLs.

Also the girls got liaison positions, support and logistics, heli and transport pilot positions, and even command center positions.

My mother remain in the military after the mandatory period. She rise in rank, finished advance training, got a position at the control center on as an IT officer. She had "alarms", she had to go wherever the unit goes, tests, training, shootings and all that.

Eventually she quit and moved to civil life. If we as "dirty commies" could do it in the 70's, I am sure that USA can do this in 2020.

Get equipped and go serve your country dammit!

Why not abolish

[–]AkashUK 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I thought women wanted equality.

shouldn't the draft be 100% female to pay for past injustices?

I think it's a good idea. We could call it reparations. That would be the end of feminists whining.

[–]Street-Chain 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I really do understand what you are saying. But the whole being civil thing is not working at all. They want fair give them fair. edit spelling

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

We shouldn't force our women onto a battle field.

Prob an unpopular opinion here, but as a man who never bought into the equality argument, our women aren't our warriors.

I'm all for some other civil service.
