In the UK, barristers used to call it the 'nagging and shagging' defence. Feminists used to hate it because 'violence is violence and there is never an excuse.

Ah, sorry. The defence would be either she nagged me and I flipped, or she was shagging someone else and I flipped. The term just encapsulated the two common lines of defence against a domestic murder charge. Both were argued as reasons for distress/loss of control. Akin to the French crime passionelle. Hated by feminists who saw it as men excusing their violence (as indeed it sometimes was) but of course about actions that are now subsumed in the coercive control idea and used to argue understanding and leniency for women offenders.
