I never tire of the "but it'll hurt the family, particularly the child" argument.

Ok, let's consider that: a man should be forced to pay for a child that isn't his for the good of the family and in fact should be kept in ignorance so he won't treat the kid differently or the mom simply because she cheated.

Carry that onward: a man who cheats and fathers another child out of wedlock should not be held responsible for that, or even be made aware of it. Spending on this other child will take money away from his current wife and child. Also knowing that he cheated will necessarily bring strife to the relationship and harm the way the wife and husband and existing child get along. So it should be strongly discouraged for women who become pregnant from an adulterous man to pursue any sort of support if he already has a child to care for.

The first argument is SOP. The second makes the guy sound like an evil selfish bastard.

I wish people would think about that.
