That doesn't sound very equal to me.

I have two scenarios both of which I think represent the best possible equal reproductive rights for both genders,

A. When the child is born both parents get equal custody of the child. If one parent is deemed unfit or decides to relinquish all or some of their parental rights the primary parent is entitled to child support. Mothers may not get an abortion without the consent of the Father.

B. Once the child is born the mother is considered the sole parent. The Mother is not entitled to child support without a pre-existing signed contract such as marriage or a secular equivalent. The Mother may get an abortion without the permission of the Father.

Both of these are slightly in favour of the Mother, but I think it's as close to equality as we're likely to get considering biology. Option A establishes both parents as having equal parental and reproductive rights. Option B establishes mothers as having sole parental rights but also sole parental responsibilities (unless a father chooses to voluntarily assume parental responsibilities).

I'm personally in favour of option B, but would accept option A as a valid alternative.

Fighting for "Choice for men" based on abortion laws is a flawed argument. If you understand the legality of Roe v Wade and how it became law it will become apparent. Basically there is a legal difference between a "fetus" and a "child/person". Only people(including children) have rights, fetuses do not have rights. Parenting rights/responsibilities only apply to children not to fetuses.

Currently the ability to terminate parenting rights and the responsibility to parent are the same for both mother and father. Terminating parenting rights (aka adoption) involve transferring the rights to another accepting person. Currently neither parent can just abandon a baby without someone else accepting the parenting responsibility.

I am part of the men's rights movement (MRM) but I am not in support of choice for men, and I am glad some other MRM members see the conflict with the abortion argument as well.
