Can you give me an example of something that isn't objectification ? I may be wrong, but I can't think of any relation between humans that isn't objectification of some sort. "Treat others as ends instead of means" never made any sense to me. It's impossible to treat others as ends. It's just a function of how you look at it.

Take your example :

Appreciation: "Wow! She's really beautiful! I bet that she works really hard to get those curves!"

Objectification: "Dem curves."

"Wow! She's really beautiful!" is just a polite version of "dem curves".

"I bet that she works really hard to get those curves!", is just a random polite and flattery thought that shares a peripheral relationship to her sexual attractiveness.

Equivalent thoughts, that share the same peripheral relationship would be :

"Wow! She's really beautiful! What wonderful curves her momma left her."

"Wow! She's really beautiful! Noone can work out curves like that. "

In short, I think objectification is code for "sexualising in a way a woman doesn't approve of" or "sexualising without politeness and flattery".

Perhaps it does mean that to some people. But to me, objectification means "turning a person into an object". Objects have no life, dreams, goals, personality. They are inanimate things that serve a purpose. To OP, the woman's existence does not seem to matter. She is just a body part to look at and comment on. There is no other purpose for her. She is just an object. Need proof? Look at the way he's described the woman.

When you sexualize a person with politeness and flattery, odds are that you are considering the person beyond the body part. Here's an example of how my boyfriend compliments me, compared to how my sister's boyfriend compliments her:

My boyfriend: Sibqm! You are the most beautiful girl in the world, and I love how smart and nice you are. (paraphrasing of a typical compliment from him)

My sister's boyfriend: _____! Your boobs are amazing!

See the difference? My sister's boyfriend consistently pisses me off because he constantly objectifies my sister. She is a collection of body parts that he likes.

You're just strengthening my position, I believe.

Let's say your boyfriend liked your boobs : Would it be objectification for him to say "Your boobs are amazing !" ?

And another thing : If a couple was together for purely sexual reasons, would it be acceptable for them to objectify each other ("see each other as a collection of body parts they like") ?

And beyond : Take a couple that likes each other for a combination of mutual sexual attractiveness, niceness and intelligence. They are still not considering the whole other person in their dealings with each other. For instance, maybe the bf has an obscure hobby the gf doesn't participate in, and the gf is a great employee. These parts of their beings are utterly irrelevant to their relationship.

In other words, they see each other as a sexually attractive, nice and intelligent relationship object. As I said, it's just a function of how you look at it.
