I was reading about the footballer who protests his innocence at raping a 19 year old girl who was "two and a half!! times over the driving limit" of alcohol, which, it says, means she couldn't have given consent.

He was convicted of the rape of a 19-year-old woman who was estimated to be two-and-a-half times over the drink-drive limit and unable to give consent.

I don't know the details of the case, but this stood out. So even if she said "hang on, I love him, I wanted it, it was consensual, here's a video of me doing the Mr President dance dressed as Marilyn" she couldn't have given consent?

Now, here is how one woman reports that women are, shockingly, as much at 17% of drunk drive convictions (why not 50%? up your game women!)

It was about 8am and I’d been asleep for two hours. I did feel like I was still a bit drunk but I wasn’t really thinking about it properly. I shouldn’t have done it really. But I got in the car thinking, it’s only around the corner, I’ll be fine. Only, as I moved the car round the corner, I was pulled over by a policeman and breathalysed. It showed I was more than three times over the legal limit.

Three times over the limit, well I should be able to drive and not have my life ruined by moving my car around the corner.

But two times over the limit, wait, TWO AND A HALF times over the LIMIT (are you getting it yet?) no way she could consent.

Did she have a photographic recollection of the night before? Or she can't remember some things? Can't remember all? Great, now you can use the term "black out drunk" which people think means "unconscious" but is used when memory is hazy.

Well she was black out drunk!

You mean she was complete conscious, drove, but the day after didn't remember some things?

Now, since people will say this condones rape, heck, I am a rapist for saying this, or it victim blames or whatever, the point of this post is to show how alcohol, limits, words are used to seal the fate of people.

"She was over the limit, black out drunk, unable to consent" can apply to a girl who looks completely sober, would even drive (illegally, unaware), able to consent entirely, but might not remember all details in the morning.

It's a terrible trick.

Again, I don't know the details, and if he did rape her, fucking asshole, if it was some grey area, both fucking assholes, if she was a liar, fucking asshole.

Should he stop playing football? No.

If he had robbed a bank and shot the teller in extenuating circumstances and gotten out after 6-8 years, he'd still be allowed to play.

He's been to prison.

Why should they force a sorry to:

  1. Clear their conscience if he is innocent
  2. Force a confession if he is / isn't guilty

It's fucking stupid.

As bad as rape is, removing the tenets of our legal system and making a mockery of them is worse, because MILLIONS have died agonizing deaths and left tens of millions waiting in agony, and hundreds of thousands have been raped as a result of the fight for freedom and democracy that our legal system, throughout history, has been built on. (as corrupt and full of shysters that it is).
