I apologize if this is somehow inappropriate, but... I don't know how else to do this justice.
A friend wrote a post on her blog saying that "Women are the primary victims of patriarchal norms" and focusing on that victimhood, presupposing it, and saying "can we PLEASE just have ONE FUCKING DAY to dicuss our problems without some dude going on about their own?!!" I called her out on the fact that she's complaining about something that men are expected to put up with every day, and get labeled as hate groups when we don't, and she issued a sort of challenge. I'm to write a post about how men are negatively impacted by sexism in society "on one condition: That it doesn’t breathe a word about feminists trying to shut you out of the conversation."
Now, the fact that such a caveat is included is itself an illustration of the problems, but I want to try, because I believe that we can be better than that.
And so I come to my request: I need ammo, with citations where possible. What ways are we screwed over? Anything and everything is welcome, but cases which can clearly show contrasts between how men & women are treated would be preferred. And feel free to link me to older posts in /r/MR if they (and their comments) have what I'm looking for.
So, will you help me, /r/MR? Will you help me prove that we can do this properly even when so handicapped?
