Ma99ie had an old Time article up on the Good Womyn Project, the jist of the paragraph I'm thinking of was about study that found that unlike relationships where the male was a breadwinner where spending decisions were equally spread out, the more money a female breadwinner earned the more money she controlled.

EDIT The Good Womyn Project seems to be gone.

Here the paragraph

"As these things often do, the changes start at home. A recent Pew study of 30-to-44-year-olds showed that when a husband is the primary or sole breadwinner, household spending decisions are divided roughly equally. He makes about a third of them, she makes a third, and they make a third jointly. But in the 22% of households studied in which the wife earned more, she made more than twice as many decisions as her husband about where the money would go. The more money women earn, the exponentially more money they manage."

I wonder if it's because women haven't been given the same "provider" conditioning that men have been given since their birth. Men, by and large, are used to the idea that they will be expected to provide for their family, including the wife. Women, on the other hand, are conditioned to, perhaps, provide for their children, but not their husband.

So I suspect women probably have a harder time thiking of money that they earned as "our" like men probably do, money rather than just "my" money.

In my experience, being the primary breadwinner doesn't mean you make all the financial decisions, or even a majority...

This is one of the many reasons I wouldnt date a woman more successful than me.

Women want to have the new role of breadwinner so they can feel powerful, but refuse to give up the old role of financial manager.

Its a microcosm of modern pre-collapse gender politics.
