Aside from that travesty of justice, this is a good news story. The girl is doing much better thanks to loving adoptive parents.

This is a well written piece that I enjoyed reading. Shocking how important the first 5 years are on the rest of your life. If I wasn't familiar with some of these feral cases I never would of believed that if you're not speaking at 5 you won't be able to speak ever. It really says a lot about how your early environment shapes the physiology of your brain. I would say the mother deserves to be in jail but maybe a mental institution would be more apt. This goes beyond typical neglect and seems more like delusional sociopathic behaviour to me.

I just can't help but dread the inevitable day when Bernie gets hauled down to jail having been accussed of kidnapping, while having to attempt getting his daughter to leave somewhere...

She won't be able to say anything to defend her father in that situation, and her hysterics without being visibly impaired will only escalate the presumption, not to mention the added trauma for her being taken away from him by officers and all that comes with it.

For her sake, I hope everyone in that town knows them and the situation.

In spite of what this woman has done to show she is not fit for parenthood, I'm sure my suggestion to neuter her would be portrayed as cruel and unusual punishment, yet it is the ideal way to prevent this problem from repeating itself.

Instead, she can get laid during her house arrest with some fellow criminal she meets during her community service and pop out another one before the 2 years are even up.

We'll have to hope she'll be monitored and someone will have the sense to snatch a kid away from her the second it's born, but the system is busy and I have no faith in that.

The ideal way is neutering. Much better failsafe, and probably less expensive than constantly checking up on her.

can we not make this about mens rights? using these stories to promote a political cause just feels wrong, its a nice story and im glad i got to read it but focusing on the mothers light sentence is just cruel.
