Stephen King basically said that when judging for the Oscars, he doesn't consider if a person is male/female, black, white, etc. I personally think that's the way it should be. If a work of art is good, it's good. It shouldn't matter who made it.

Roxane Gay tweeted in response: "...It implies that diversity and quality cannot be synonymous. They are not separate things..." If you check a thesaurus, quality and diversity are in fact not synonyms. You could have high quality and diverse, you could have low quality and diverse.... you could even have mediocre and diverse.

What I'm trying to say is that I think they are being too hard on the man. I understand that people want more women and people of color in the Oscars, but it sounds more like the want participation trophies than awards for meaningful achievements.
