Straight Pride Parade, Chapin's Inferno

You don't need a straight pride parade...it's fucking retarded. When people are beaten to death for being straight, or they're sent to re-education camps to cure them of straightness, THEN maybe you'd need a "straight pride parade".

Before it starts, let me explain it to those of you who, apparently, just don't seem to understand. When you're constantly told that you're somehow deficient due to some inherent quality (like race, sexual orientation, gender-identity, etc.) you start to internalize that shit...the culture of the people who hold that inherent quality gets partially defined by the shame they're made to feel. IF the people with that quality finally get tired of the beatings/etc. and they stand up...the general vibe is going to be to throw off the bullshit the mainstream culture spewed at them. One of those things is shame for being oneself. So, that culture will support X-pride to counteract the bullshit.

I grew up living with a gay aunt, next door to a gay cousin. I saw the shit they went through just for being gay...it's fucking rough. My cousin came out when he was about 14/15 (first to me, secretly, then to a few other people, and finally, to his mom). What did his mom, a "devout" christian woman, do when she found out? She sent him to a re-education camp. He came back 3 months later and insisted he was straight...even to me. He refused to talk about the camp...at all...ever. Once he turned 18, he dropped the charade and moved out. Finally able to be himself, he went full hog into the gay-pride thing...BECAUSE HE NEEDED IT. Nearly all straight people do not need "straight-pride" (except for the lone straight guy who grew up in gaytown).

That isn't a "straight pride" parade, it's a "gay people are having a parade so we should have one too" parade.

Everyone deserves the right to be proud of being true to who they are and to embrace their sexuality, but that doesn't seem to be what this particular "straight pride" parade was about. That's why people had a problem with it from what I've seen, because it seems to be less about actual straight pride than it does going against gay pride.

Also, I tend to think that women like to be around gay men because there is a lack of sexual tension, not because "gays are wonderful" or something.

you never have to hide being straight, for ages being gay in western society was pretty much taboo and you had to live your life secretly in shame.
