I went back to school for nursing at 26 for an accelerated program and my only regret in life is not choosing this path straight out of high school. Nursing is objectively a great career. Unlimited flexibility, great pay, stable, ot. A lot of the negative things you hear about the job come from a woman’s perspective. Yes, it can be busy sometimes, but it’s easier than the dishwashing job I had at 16. First year out of school I was hired at Hopkins and made 90k after picking up some over time. Second year I started the traveling thing and was NETTING 10k a month. It’s great and it’s probably one of the only jobs I can think of where being a man will actually help you.

Do what makes you happy fuck em and the stereotypes, just remember not to get involved with them besides a smile or small talk, being personable is good for raises and promotions

After graduating you will be also in mostly female environment. Maybe study some specialisation, like ambulance nurse or something.

be aware that you'll be the 'strong back'. You will (most of the time) be the only man on the shift (in the given department) and thus most heavy liftig (->patients) duties will be signed over to you. Same with dirty work.

Complain and demand/suggest fairer distribution? The Wrath of Headnurse Karen is on you forever... you may as well quit.

It doesn't have to be like this, but it sadly often is.

If you manage bite your tougne and 'outlive' Headnurse Karen and become head nurse yourself, you have a chance to create a different distribution, but all the (non-male) nurses will hate you... you may as well quit.

What exactly are you scared of? They usually don't bite unless you ask them to or pay extra. I start back to finish my psych degree in the fall. Its going to be interesting to say the least because i will be 30+ years older than most of them and really cant stand being around most people that age.

It's fine, the biggest problem will be your attitude towards being "the old one".

Lots more people go back to school when they are older, you'll probably not be the only one.

I'm taking vocation it school (network and information security) online part time in addition to work and it's a spread of people. Some are 20's, some are 40's, and in between.

Men need to move into fields besides the ones in STEM, broaden your horizons.
