The directors and writers want you to feel this way. So they succeeded. What you are pointing out is what the whole movie is about. There are other movies where a woman always stands by and waits for her love. "One day" for example Anne Hathaway.

Also:

She was there for him in the very beginning when he had no friends because he had braces

on his legs. He just repaid the love ten fold.

She was the one who told him to run in the first place.
