Feminism has gone unchallenged for too long. It has become the dominant ideology in many areas of our lives, from laws to social customs slanted in women's favor. There must be a counterbalancing force against it to turn the tide and begin a discussion of coming to a compromise. Trying to compromise right now from a position of weakness won't work. We will just continue to slide further into the nightmare of feminism.

Lots of reasons.

For one, we're a herd creature, and we LOVE to play in group/out group, so we prefer to be in groups with a definable characteristic we can key on as an identifier for the group. "Egalitarian" really doesn't have that visible or overt characteristic, so it would be a tough sell to anyone that's very group oriented, which is most of us.

Secondly, we're really not all that egalitarian when you get down to it. Most of us are a bit selfish, and when we're not being selfish about ourselves directly, we're busy being slightly less selfish around the groups we're in. The truly ethical person that's colour blind, status blind, gender blind, etc. is really rare.

I agree that, if things were a blank slate, we should work together. But things aren't a blank slate - the Personal has become so Politicized (for various reasons) that every issue comes pre-fractured. Every issue has decades, centuries, or millennia of baggage attached to it. We didn't start the fire - we were born to it and have only recently joined the fight.

(Switching my metaphors), in order to build a sound house on a non-virginal plot, you've got to tear down the existing structure (the one with the black mold, crumbling foundation, termites, etc. that can't be salvaged). I 100% agree that all genders need to join together to build the new, sound house. But there's a condemned structure in the way, and it's fighting being torn down.

I guess the question hinges on this: do you think the existing structure is salvageable, or don't you? That will dictate your opinion on stage OPs question, I think.

I appreciate your comments. It just feels counterproductive to have "sides"--for lack of a better word--that are mostly separated by gender when we can both have what we should be fighting, equality. It feels like this whole thing is boys vs. girls when I feel that we can come a lot closer to achieving our goals together. It won't be perfect, but I feel that It'd be better than what we have now if it works out
