Hello all. This is not a post meant to shame feminism, and it is also not a post meant to shame MRAs. It's just an observation.

Yesterday I watched a TEDtalk by Cassie Jaye, a former feminist that made the movie The Red Pill. She said that when she was talking to MRAs, she wasn't listening, she was waiting for them to bring something up that would trip a misogynist flag, or try and twist it into a feminist problem.

For example:

MRA: More suicide deaths are men.

Feminist: Yeah but more women attempt it.

I have cross-referenced with several feminist and MRA communities and have found a disturbing similarity on both sides.

I think one of the problems that prevents MRAs and feminists from seeing eye-to-eye is that both sides think that each side is trying to one-up the other and discredit their side when all the OP is doing is stating a fact.. For example, I have seen responses by lurkers on feminist subs that go somewhat like this:

"More women get raped than men (this is a fact as far as I know)"

However, a small minority intepret this as "men don't get raped"

And the inevitable answer "Men suffer from sexual violence as well" (also a fact)

However, some feminists intepret this as "Women getting raped doesn't matter"

See? Facts are taken, spun into opiniated remarks, and that's where most of the conflict stems from, don't you think?

As you can see, this is cyclic. It does not stop and cannot stop unless something is done to help MRAs and feminists cooperate. These two movements are formidable forces in their own right (but MRAs less so than feminist--again, a fact) but there would be so much more credibility if they were to work together. I understand it may be hard for some of us to work with feminism as it seems threatening, but who's to day some feminists don't view us the same way? The first step is to bring up facts, and only fact (PinkPill, I'm looking at you) and to view fact, and only fact (yes antifeminists).

Also, it's not a competition.

Men kill themselves more than women. Women attempt suicide more than men. Both facts.

So what? That's good?

It's good that more of our brothers die by their own hand? It's good that more of our sisters wish to? Just because more people are murdered in Syria doesn't mean that nobody is murdered in Hawaii. The one-upping that's so prevalent in social media discredits BOTH feminism and MRAs, and something needs to be done before both movements lose all credibility.

The ancient Greeks believed a man and a woman used to inhabit the same body, creating a nigh-invincible creature with both qualities that complemented each other. However, they were sundered apart and that's why we look for our other half. Other half--not better half. They complement each other, and we need to do so too on a societal level.

I know this will come of as abrasive and many will say this is not what we do here in the sub, but the MRA is more than just one online community. I'm putting this here not just for the members, but whoever might be reading, whoever might scroll past and glance at it, and hopefully translate this into the other platforms where our movement and feminism can be propagated.

The amount of suffering is not a competition. This is a qualitative fight, not a quantitative one. Everyone deserves a voice, and while some of ours are silenced by so-called feminists, some women are silenced by so-called MRAs too. These people do not constitute the movement, and at the core both are fighting for a noble cause. Hurt goes both ways, and both movements must understand that. Just because one side suffers more does not make the problem exclusive.
