But that doesn't refute women's argument that it's harder for them to land a high-paying job than it is for men in the first place.

Yes, I know what you were asking. Sorry about my response. I was in a hurry and didn't really elaborate.

I think the first response should be to ask them to prove that claim. There's no point in arguing over a claim if the claim is false to begin with. As a wise man once said, "That which can be asserted without evidence, can be dismissed without evidence." If they can't provide evidence then there is no real argument. It's all just a "feeling" - not based on objective reality.

It's frustrating because I work with a woman who is an academic and has read every piece of literature published on feminist matters and could cite an academic source for every argument she could ever make regarding the patriachy. Any "prove it" would be met with a citation.

If you tried to make an argument without an academic source it would be dismissed out of hand. In fact, as a man, pretty much any argument I could make would be dismissed out of hand simply because I am male. I have actually been told to "shut up" in a conversation between her and other workmates and that my opinions don't matter on these things.

So, unfortunately, I am in the "it's easier just not to say anything and accept what she says" boat. If it matters, she is paid higher than anyone else in our office, apart from our boss, who is also female. So her constant (couple of times a week) half hour spoutings about womens lack of privilege in a patriarch controlled society are all the more annoying. I just want to get back to my work. Or reddit, I suppose.

If she's citing from feminist "academic" sources then she may very well be citing bullshit to begin with. Just because someone throws out a citation doesn't mean it has any basis in reality. Fact: at one point in history people used to cite phrenology but now that whole branch of "knowledge" has been discredited. Patriarchy theory is nothing more than a conspiracy theory of history, and a pretty shitty one at that - sort of like the whole "Jews control the entire world" conspiracy.

In fact, as a man, pretty much any argument I could make would be dismissed out of hand simply because I am male. I have actually been told to "shut up" in a conversation between her and other workmates and that my opinions don't matter on these things.

Then she's a bigot and wouldn't listen even if you had 100% irrefutable proof that your claim was legit. You can simply dismiss her. No further action need on your part.

Sounds like you need to grow a pair of balls. I'm not trying to make fun of you by saying this - I really mean it. She seems like a bigot that hates men. Why bother arguing with her at all? Become the boss and fire her ass for sexism ;)
