I think you may be ok here then. If you are unable to work out an informal parenting time agreement with your ex (that is, if she insists on terms--like supervision--that are unacceptable to you), however, you may need to resort to the family court.
I think the reason the judge asked you to work it out informally is because courts generally believe that co-parenting functions best when issues like parenting time are not formally contested, but instead negotiated directly by the parents.
