Washington Post writes an article blaming masculinity for the Columbine shootings and many like it...the top comments are even worse.

There is no well defined concept of Masculinity. This is sterotyping of the worst type and a bare faced misuse of language. Beware of bad faith framing.

Make a word up, or redefine an old one, then you create a thing that can discussed and attacked. These are worn out political tactics from the battle ground of language. This is all Orwellian and from the maunuals of how to create a totalitarianism.

FYI disaterous made up phrases include: War on Drugs, War on Terror, Rape Culture, Toxic Masculinty, Communist Menace, Zero Tolerance etc

Okay lets say for a moment this damaged masculinity is the cause of these shootings.

That fails to explain why out of the countless men that are in the same position as those shooters the VAST MAJORITY of men dont resort to such violence.

That means having your masculinity damaged cant be the sole culprit.

Personally I think its a case of males being expected to embrace violence. Thing is if these guys had joined the military no one would bat an eye at their violent ways. Or if they got into sports.

In short people dont have problem with such violent masculinity when it suits their needs but cry foul when it spills over and hurts other people. (This is also why when people hear about man being violent towards a woman they are up in arms but when an accused man is the victim of vigilante justice no one outside of the mrm cares.)

So in my mind 2 things to happen.

One we have to stop raising boys to embrace violence. Even though there are times when its useful its ultimately destructive.

Two when boys and men call for help, fucking help them.
