I think you’ve got some reasonable attempts to mediate, so do t take me the wrong way.

The problem is the other side doesn’t want standardized rules. Because if they have them, the whole intersectional hierarchy begins to waver. It’s not about fact vs fiction for them, it’s about who’s the biggest victim. So it’s easier to play by shifting rules to fit each situation as beneficially for them as possible.

Also on your last bit, there’s a small problem. If you legally change your SEX on all documents, you can still be fucked up by medical treatment as some maladies are influenced by your genetics and not psychology or ‘surface’ physiology. I say surface because I can’t think of a better term. Sex changes don’t swap your XX or XY chromosomes. If I got a sex change to female, I’d still be a biological male...and still susceptible to certain cancers and diseases that disproportionately affect males. Same for females. This is because at the base level all of my biology carries the genetic markers that I have XY pair. Until we develop sci-fi technology that lets you swap bodies and sufficiently developed cloning, you cannot get rid of your biological sex.

I think this whole “assigned at birth” is ludicrous. You’re assigned your sex at conception.

In feminist academia, it's pretty much how this works. You have a biological sex. And you have a gender. Your gender is a social construct.

(A bit of a warning to any trangender person reading this, I respect you and I respect your choices, but you're probably not going to like what I have to say).

Like Tzaran says, you can't ever change your sex. The tricky part is the gender.

Gender, since it is a "social construct" is not a rational thing. It's not even really a real thing. It's what people perceive you as, including yourself.

If you want to change "gender" from man to woman, it's not enough to consider yourself a woman. It's not enough to get hormone therapy and genital surgery. Hell, it's not even enough to edit your own DNA to replace your Y with an X. You have to convince all of society that you are female.

And that's what some feminists are trying to do. Give individuals the power to impose their own perception of their gender on the whole rest of society. Basically, if tomorrow I wake up and I want to be a woman, than I should be able to force all of society to accept me as such.

From that perspective, it seems like being gender queer is often an attempt to rebel against society and their effort to pigeonhole you into a specific gender.

Of course, most people have a gendered sexual preference (aka they are straight or gay). Even bisexuals are often interested in each gender in different ways. That preference is based primarily on looks and behavior. But most people need to believe that there is a deeper reality to their preference. And this whole biological sex thing seems to be that deeper reality. Furthermore, sexuality and gender are so fundamental to the human experience that it just make sense to want to be able to differentiate people based on gender on a daily basis. And frankly, I think it is normal to feel duped if someone tries to pass themselves of as gender that is different than the gender you believe that they are. And the vast majority of people believe that your sex is your gender.

So to me, that's the academic justification for why the feminist gender war is full of shit.

I'm all for people perceiving themselves as a gender that is different from their sex. And I'm all for them trying to find social circles where people will see them as the same gender that they see themselves.

But I'm also all against forcing or even intimidating anyone to see them as that gender. I also think that it is extremely disrespectful to purposely try to fool someone into seeing you as a different gender than the one they believe you are.

In addition to this, you may choose to be whatever GENDER you want to be, Apache attack helicopter to a trans-fluid walrus if you so desire.

Then I get to choose, with full impunity, whether or not to accept that self-identification and default to relying upon the person's sex to ID their gender.

Additionally, if gender is to be so liberally used, then new terms must be developed to describe 'male' and 'female' counterparts as not to confuse them with their sexual describers. Boy, man, male, girl, woman and female would all stay under the 'sex' umbrella.
