We see so much in the news media about the Brett Cavanagh hearings and the accusations by his accuser. Here is the summary from memory. He raped her approx 35 years ago, No witnesses who came forward corroborated her story and she could not provide dates and times for the rape. The only evidence that it occurred was her word against his.

So, then what do we do with rape accusations like this?

That was my question in another subreddit(under a different username) that shall remain nameless, the answers I received were very enlightening.

Most were what you would expect from Reddit, along the lines of "He should not be a supreme court judge after that accusation" others were "Well we don't know what happened but just to be safe we should not have an accused rapist on the SC"

This bothers me A LOT, I mean the accuser had very few details probably because it was so long ago and no matter what we tend to forget things, even more so if it is traumatic. The timing of the accusation as well in my mind has a bearing on this as well, I mean 35ish years ago and from what I have read she never mentioned it to anyone until now. Plus again from what I have read the people she said she was there don't remember it or at the very least said they didn't remember it.

SO, what should we do with these accusations, investigate as best we can and IMHO, they should be done anon after all the Statute of limitations has run out and there can't be any charges so lets now ruin someone's life over something that has no chance of going to court.
