edit: I'm not arguing that I have a right to have Youtube not show me these ads. I'm questioning the implications of getting sent ads implying most young men are abusive unless they're taught otherwise-and equally, that young women are only ever victims.
edit2: Apparently this campaign is ran by the Home Office. I may need to delete this post. FWIW, the actual website seems to be gender neutral, albeit clearly feminist.
Seriously…listening to Trivium? (don'tlaughitwasagoodalbum) Plan UK's "Because I'm a Girl: Learn Without Fear" chilling ad comes on where some douchey school kids harass a girl into sending nudes by blocking her escape on a staircase, another girl's stalked and raped in a toilet and another is getting groomed by her teacher...
Watching Honest Trailers? I get the 'Disrespect Nobody' campaign; some patronising talking eyeballs saying "if you're checking your girlfriend's phone, telling her who she can and cannot speak to…stahp!" Talking boxers saying "When it comes to sex, only an idiot would put pressure on someone!" More talking hands saying "if you think it's OK to hit your girl…it's NOT OK bro!"
First, I feel condescended towards for this implication that I'm a high-risk Youtuber for these activities.
Second, so much for gender neutrality. Every single piece of 'advice' on the ad was aimed at men, and for women. The talking objects representing women (bras) were all "If your boyfriend tells you […] that's not right/he shouldn't do that" etc. Moreover, the various ads denote female supremacy; the underwear asks "what if she's like ooh yeah let's do this?" The bras laugh, " a bit optimistic*, but that sounds like consent". The guy on the other side of the phone seeking out sext nudes is "getting desperate" and "a total dick". Not a single example reversed the genders; ironically, their slogan is "there's a person attached to every body. Respect both." Yet, casual misandry and male deferene to females was framed as 'equality' in the campaign!
What the fuck guys? I haven't watched an MRA/MGTOW style video in nearly 6 weeks on Youtube. I wanted a break from gender wars just before bed. Why does it keep sending me ads implying I'm an abuser and rapist, likely to be a controlling boyfriend...and while I am about to watch a spoof of Antman while at it?
Is anyone else experiencing this?
