A return to constitutionalism would be an outcome to be welcomed.

It's not going to happen so there's nothing of practical concern to discuss.

It will always be legal for rape victims therefore any woman who got pregnant after consentual sex will cry rape.

It will always be legal for rape victims therefore any woman who got pregnant after consentual sex will cry rape.

And if this is the case, women, like Roe herself, will simply lie about being raped, women do so casually today, it's easy and safe for them.

The impact of these laws will be felt first by the women. They still bear the children. They’ll still suffer the most negative effects at first. Those effects will quickly find their way to the men, as well. Unlike the men prior to 1973, they won’t be able to escape it.

This is complete bullshit, roe vs wade did not make things better for men, it made things worse, and none of the laws or ways the law discriminates against purported fathers will go away post RvW.

RvW is simply proof that women can get anything they want by lying about being raped.

And the Constitution does not grant the federal government the ability to legislate in this area, it is properly a states rights issue.

I know abortion is a touchy issue. It has been even more touchy since the recent shake-ups on the Supreme Court. I've seen a lot of heated debates among women and a few men in women's subreddits. But I think there's another component to the debate that isn't being discussed, one that primarily affects men.

Most men don't realize it, but a lot of modern laws surrounding parental rights and child support came after 1973 when Roe v. Wade was decided. There are many stories about what life was like for women prior to this decision. However, there aren't any story about what life is like for men in a world where abortion is illegal, but current child support laws are in place.

I believe this will become a more relevant issue as abortion access becomes more restrictive. If a woman gets pregnant, intentionally or unintentionally, there are legal mechanisms in place to trap men with legal ramifications. There are documented cases, namely among professional athletes, of women extorting men out of money using these laws. If Roe v. Wade gets overturned, more than just pro athletes will be impacted.

Now, I know there are many men on this sub who are pro-life. I don't expect to change their minds and I understand their sentiment. But however you feel on this issue, it's going to impact men in a way that wasn't possible back in 1973 and I think that's worth contemplating.

I welcome further discussion.

Most men don't realize it, but a lot of modern laws surrounding parental rights and child support came after 1973 when Roe v. Wade was decided.

So then how will overturning RvW (which will not make abortion illegal per se) make things worse for men?

Logistically speaking, it means women will be less able to end an unwanted pregnancy. As a result, more women carrying children to term means more reason to seek child support from men. And the laws surrounding child support today are a lot stricter than they were before 1973. Professional athletes have already experienced this from women who get impregnated by them on purpose, but I suspect there will be even more cases if women are unable to obtain an abortion. Desperate people will seek out whatever resources they can and, thanks to the way the law is currently structured, there will be more incentives to use child support laws, legally and illegally, to get resources from men.

Logistically speaking, it means women will be less able to end an unwanted pregnancy.

Since RvW, many states have taken steps to make abortion less available, and overturning RvW won't make abortion illegal, so I'm not convinced that there would be a great deal of a difference.

As a result, more women carrying children to term means more reason to seek child support from men.

You're assuming that said pregnancies are actually unplanned, by the woman.

And the laws surrounding child support today are a lot stricter than they were before 1973. Professional athletes have already experienced this from women who get impregnated by them on purpose, but I suspect there will be even more cases if women are unable to obtain an abortion.

Those women who get pregnant by professional athletes don't want abortions, and neither do women who plan to live off welfare, CS or the host of other support agencies for pregnant women and women with children. We have made single motherhood not only viable, but better than living on a minimum wage job. I really don't see any impact to this segment of the female population at all.

Desperate people will seek out whatever resources they can

And these resources are available to women with children, less so to women without children.
