Note that child-free women usually get treated in the same ways as men do, the leniency for mothers is not favoritism, but simply a least amount of damage hack around the general brokeness of the system.

Mothers get a free pass, because it's not only incredibly expensive to look after the children in care and the public purse is empty, but also, for a kid, entering the British care system means their own life is guaranteed to be fubared.

One solution to this would be normal sentences for non-dangerous offenses which get served by the perp once the offspring is 18. Same goes for fines, fine now, keep as a debt with a IR that reflects inflation, and start garnishing wages/social security/etc once the kids are adults.

It would be very similar to a student loan, so I cannot really see why perps should not pay in the same way.
