This isn't really a fair question. If you have less time with the child you pay money, period. If you have the child every other week, 50% of the time, then you can argue there should be no pay. I don't see how a man who willingly fathered a child with a woman, and wanted this child, can get off with 2 days a week and no monetary help whatsoever. I don't see a way that that is equal or fair. After all isn't equality our motive here?

I'd want to have a relationship with my child. Okay, I live 3 hours away, so? Yea, its inconvenient, but its my child too. I want to be a part of its life and upbringing. Weekends, holidays and birthdays? That's all the fun parts!

The parent/child relationship is paramount. You try and work out whatever you can with the mother so you get as much parenting time as possible. Hopefully both sides agree on an appropriate schedule. If she wants money as part of the deal. Just pay her off. You won't get that time with your kid back. Just make sure to follow up with the courts later and get custodial rights established. Otherwise she could swoop in later and ask for more. Also keep in mind that she could renege at any time. No agreement you make will be binding, so don't bother trying.

edit: Oops, just read your other comment. I thought you meant:

A) Dad pays max for full parental rights or

B) Dad accept less time and custodial rights in exchange for less money.

Every other weekend being a small amount of visitation. I thought that it was a father struggling with not having more parenting time.

You take the relationship with your kid before you pay out the ass. But if this guy was so classy that he moved just to get away from his child and responsibilities, then he deserves to pay then. You don't move bro, you put your big boy pants on and defend yourself. Now he can't get that 50% custody cause he's a schmuck. If it were me, I'd be proving how I was a good father, how stable I was and fighting for my rights. Its men like this guy who gives men that want their rights, a bad name. This guy just hands his balls over in a jar at the beginning. That's why he's in this situation.
