I agree but unfortunately for a lot of men it's either provide, or just be obsolete on the dating market. Now I will be the first to say, that when I guy is somewhat decent looking, it's always better to be in a relationship with a slightly less attractive woman, who may have a genuine interest than with the "best you can get" type of chick that requires splashing cash. Many men simply go for the latter and then they suffer.

But then you have guys who really need to be somewhat providers (I don't mean be sugar daddy but simply pay for more than the woman) in order to get into any relationship. These guys don't have the luxury to drop their standards, because that means either some fat and absolutely hideous women – and even though men are attracted to a much wider group of women than vice versa, it has its limits – or simply live alone. I respect men who do that but you need to be mentally tough to accept that reality. Not everyone can do that.

But I would give a general advice "go for the best you can get without being a provider".
