So there seems to be a lot of skepticism about "alpha fucks/beta bucks" to the point where many people seem to just think it's extremely unlikely.

I've seen and heard this study and other similar ones many times from many sources in different fields. What is the thinking or data behind those that find the idea "beta buck/alpha fucks" unlikely? Discuss.
