[Meta] Rule Change?

A mod recently indicated to me (if I understood) that the rule is for the title only, not the subtitle submission text, and it's meant to prevent intentionally loaded BS like the sidebar example "Why do you kick puppies?"

I agree it is misleading as written and seems to prevent affirmative positions. "Neutrality" doesn't make much sense and I don't think is possible. Instead the rule should somehow focus on: sincerity, intent, evidence.

Sincerity: this covers honest mistakes. Honest mistakes make boring posts but aren't bad behavior.

Intent: stated positions should still be in the spirit of the sub, promoting polite (as possible) discussion. "I fucking hate X" is different from "I disagree with X."

Evidence: the more extraordinary the claim, the more extraordinary the evidence you should begin with. I think we want users to make those claims if that's the discussion. I'd say "TRP leads to kicking puppies" (a very doubtful claim) is unacceptable unless someone actually had tons of evidence or reasoning about it.

Why is there a push for posters to take an affirmative stance? What's wrong with a negative stance? I agree that posts should be allowed to take a stance, but I'm not sure why you would restrict that stance.

The problem here isn't how people feel about the issues. The real problem is when people's posts are filled with logical fallacies (primarily strawman arguments) and insults. The latter is what should be against sub rules.

I don't think an affirmative stance makes any sense for threads started by blue pillers. What possible claim could they make from a blue pill perspective? We don't agree on anything.

If the affirmative stance is based on the individual person's belief then that will lead to a confusing thread that ends up discussing their personal belief - which is irrelevant to this sub.
