There is a big difference between being "polyamorous" and just having sex outside your relationship.

The first is very hard to ever pull off successfully. While the second is still challenging, it's way easier and can potentially be lots of fun.

Maybe I'm old-school, but this current conflation of "polyamory" with being simply non-sexually exclusive is a little intellectually dishonest. It's like somehow calling it "polyamory" ("many loves") makes it sound somehow more noble than "getting some strange on the side."
