Ferris Bueler's day off was the story of how Cameron swallowed and entered the anger phase.

"American Beauty" showcases betaness drying up the pussy and benefits of increasing SMV.

Lester is very beta and does not give his wife any tingles. She finds another man who is a top dog in his industry.

He works out, adopts a DGAF attitude, and attracts his daughter's friend (but I think she already had an Electra Complex).

Very good example, and a terrific film at that.

Game of Thrones is full of RP concepts. It's a pretty obvious example though.

One flew over the cuckoo's nest :The beta males suffer under the matriarchy until the the alpha male comes and tries to liberate them.

The Big Bang Theory : Penny rides the cock carousel and then settles for a beta male

The Big Bang Theory : Penny rides the cock carousel and then settles for a beta male

To be fair, that one is probably only obvious to those already familiar with RP.

One flew over the cuckoo's nest

Good answer. McMurphy's even a pretty solid example of a bro-y PUA RP type.

This better suited for /r/TheRedPill or /r/asktrp. I would repost there.

Blue Valentine is dripping in TRP. If there was anything I would put on the redpill sidebar it's this movie, it basically contains the entirety of it in one case study. The Place Beyond the Pines also has many TRP examples. It seems like the writer/director Derek Cianfrance views the world through a fairly RP lens.

Blue Valentine looks like a beta bux cautionary tale.

[–]alexdelargeorange1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Very much so. It's very well done, I highly recommend it.

American Beauty has already been mentioned so I'll go with something more recent. Though I'm not really a big fan of the series in general, I recently saw the film Divergent. Shailene Woodley's character goes for the one guy (played by Theo James) who literally couldn't give two shits about her.

I mean, the first words he says to her are "Who said you could talk to me?"

Meanwhile, the other orbiters who actually care are merely tools for validation and attention.

What are some movies/shows you believe showcase TRP?

The good, the bad and the ugly. No matter how bad things get, no matter what life throws at you, if you play your hand close to your chest and you have some basic gumption you'll be the one who's not digging.

Fight Club. You are not the material objects you posses, and more often than not represent a cage keeping you just happy enough that you're not chaffing against your collar. To improve you will often have to walk away from these things- things will have to get worse before they can get better. Yet at the same time you can't exactly blame society for this- society is like that guy you met in high school who never grew up. Just because one side of the fence is shit doesn't mean the other side is implicitly green.

Also, its a good life skill to know how to make soap, and how to handle yourself in a fist fight.

Vagabond. Its a manga that follows the Japanese duelist Miyamoto Musashi. Superiority doesn't come from besting those around you but by being better than the person you used to be. Also, one of the side stories of a person who's effectively cuckolded by Musashi (not in a sexual sense, but his fiance pretty much ignores him for Musashi because Musashi is simply more interesting and less a dishonest patsy) is probably going to tick all the right TRP boxes.

Fuck yeah Vagabond. So much masculine ideals.

A memorable moment was when Miyamoto was still young and arrogant from beating many opponents. He challenged the head son of a sword school and gets beaten easily. When he's leaving the school, covered in his blood, he thinks to himself something along the line of "What was I thinking? They're so strong. The difference between us is too great. Did I really think I could take them on?"

From then on, Miyamoto acknowledges his weaknesses and trains with discipline and single-mindedness to hone his skills.

And the artwork is insanely good.

But I think any film that doesn't automatically have the protagonist win can be rp. Chinatown for example gets it into your head that contrary to popular tropes, the bad guy can and often does win.

A film that shows that kindness and empathy are often not directly correlated with success has the potential to teach RP principles as they will match what often happens in real life..... you're probably going to work for under pretty scummy people, and that drug dealer in your school will probably end up banging more broads than your next 3 descendants. Shit's life.

That kinda rules out most Disney films though.

Better Living Through Chemistry, reminds me somewhat of American Beauty with the protagonist's beta to alpha transformation.

"500 Days of Summer"

Before RP, I would have thought JGL simply wasn't compatible with Zooey and he would be able to find someone for him.

After RP, I realize he is trying to attract Zooey when he's lacking understanding of female sexual strategy and what behaviors/traits women are attracted to. If he neglects to learn these, he will also fail with the last girl Autumn.

There's a manga called "Gantz" where the main character goes through a transformation from meek, "angst phase" teenager to a solid alpha leader of his group.

This was possible through him being hyped up about his goal, taking action and improving his abilities through harder and harder challenges, and being decisive and assertive when leading his teammates.
