Flashbacks and nightmares are common after traumatic experiences. The use of the word "dream" is interesting as it ameliorates the situation. Obviously the screencap is clickbait, but you could at least do your own research, and you'd understand a bit better.

She was given a set of photos to chose from by the police. She chose incorrectly. This wasn't deliberate. Eyewitness testimony is shaky at the best of times. Combined with trauma, it should only be used as a last resort, when there is no evidence. But US cops aren't known for their overwhelming desire to uphold innocence until proven guilty, especially when young black men are involved

The judge ordered them to preserve it and they destroyed it anyway. This is the primary issue with the case. Police misconduct. I have a degree and MSc in forensic psychology, you dense cunt. I have a fairly good understanding of rape, rape fantasy etc. My thesis was on public perceptions of sex offenders based on gender. False accusations of the nature you describe are generally malicious. Hers was not. I don't hold it against her for remembering incorrectly. If beat and abused you as badly as she was, under the same circumstances, and then someone showed you photos of potential perpetrators, there's a good chance you wouldn't recall correctly, but the person you recalled would slot into your memories and to you, the recollection including them would be as real as any other memory you have.

She was unaware she'd recalled incorrectly. She was a victim of an attack giving her account. How you can think she's to blame as much as officers who literally destroyed the evidence that would have shown his innocence and the perpetrators guilt is beyond me. Evidence is supposed to be the backbone of cases like this. Not EWT.

Stupid how. She was battered, her memories of the event would most likely be fragmented, and flashbacks/nightmares, while often inaccurate, feel real to the victim. Your mind tries to make sense of things that happen to you. It doesn't always get it right.

The real failure is the authorities not taking other evidence into account (the police destroyed some of this), and taking her word as 100% accurate, despite all we know of EWT.

Stupid in the sense that she destroyed an innocent person's life hopefully accidentally. She identified him in court despite not being sure of the perp at all. That action, is stupid; regardless of the crime and individuals involved.

If you want to take it on faith that it was due to trauma or the system encouraging her, that's fine. I'd agree that's possible. From what we know for sure though she did identify him without knowing 100% for sure it was him and without any other evidence bar a dream she had to go on. That's literally what the guys lawyer said in the article.

The witness was mentally healthy enough to be cross examined, so she was questioned about this directly in court. To be clear, under oath, she identified him despite not being sure.

Is she a bad person? Different question but imo probably not. The prosecution likely pushed her to take the stand and testify.
