That seems unfortunate but anecdotal; I don’t know that you can generalize it as cultural. There are over 200 million adult americans.

Perhaps it is “cultural” within your family in that you picked a woman like your mom and your son picked one like his mom. That seems more likely.

There is some verifiable proof that family chains of disfunction do transfer from parents and siblings. You basically learned what a relationship is through your parents and if they are bad examples, you'll inadvertently absorb some of those bad habits like not being able to see the red flags, or allowing yourself to be stepped on. To answer your question, no, you don't have to take it and you have a choice. Sometimes it's also just bad luck, don't worry too much on who's to blame. Now you know the truth and that's enough for you to know how to move on.

Interesting that you mentioned that you are all Christian s. Apparently, the incidence of infidelity is way higher among Christians than Atheist s or any other religion.

I don't have ann explanation for this but expect it is something to do with the pressure to marry early and before either party has had the chance to fully explore their independence.
