A female suspect was arrested on April 4 after she was pulled over near Wilshire Boulevard and then tried to drive away, nearly striking an LAPD motorcycle officer.

The officer pulled the driver over around 9:30 a.m. near Wilshire Boulevard and Orange Drive after she was observed driving erratically while applying makeup, according to Sgt. M. Pettway, with the LAPD’s West Traffic Division. The driver was identified as J. Sarnoff, of Los Angeles, and she was charged with assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, a felony.

After the motorcycle officer attempted a traffic stop, Sarnoff turned off Wilshire Boulevard on to Orange Drive and stopped briefly. When the officer approached, she attempted to make a U-turn and drive away, forcing the officer to jump out of the way. He yelled for her to stop, and she complied. The driver was then ordered out of the vehicle and handcuffed before being transported for booking.

“It shows the dangers of trying to drive while putting on makeup,” Pettway said. “She probably only would have received a citation, but now she’s on her way to jail.”
