Hi all,
I ventured here from r/truechristian and it's just the place I was looking for.
Stats: 23/yo, 6'1, 168lbs. Bmi 20. I teach 7th grade English at a title 1 school (poor, at risk youth). I started the job in August. Graduated with an English lit degree in May. I make $35350/yr and also make an additional $10k/yr from teaching music part time as a contractor. N count is 1.
I have been in serious want of general self improvement since I started this new job 1) for myself 2) in hopes of finding a relationship 3) to help manage a classroom (being alpha is key, especially in middle school, managing a classroom).
I'd consider myself a mature Christian. I've been saved for 11 years and I've been through a lot. I know how to be "abased" and how to "abound" as Paul puts it. I read and have quiet time for 1.5 hours every morning before work. I used to be addicted to PMO until I put that away mid-college. In college, I was pretty beta until I just got tired of it. I started reading the Bible seriously and praying seriously. My life changed. I became more outgoing, I wasn't afraid to talk to girls, and it netted me one of the best relationships I've ever had. I also saw God working actively in my life, and as I was praying for the guys around me in Bible studies (I was leading one at the time) I saw their lives being changed as well, partly because of my example.
I'm currently not in a relationship, and, while I want one, I enjoy being single and don't have a problem with it. Patience is not a trait I have trouble with.
It's just time to get off my butt. It's time to find a good church around here and get into a Bible study/small group. It's time to start exercising and eating right. It's time to stop thinking of myself as a recent college grad "settling in." it's been 2 months of this and it's time.
I have been smoking and vaping for nearly 2 years. I'm starting my RPC journey on Monday. Quitting cold turkey, and running at least 3x a week. I have been too long living in my lazy flesh and I want to be the master of my life and my flesh in accordance/underneath the Lord's mastery.
I had a bit of a descent from alpha-dom when I was diagnosed with Bipolar disorder a year ago. Starting the medication journey was rough and took me out of myself for a time. I am now (dare I say) perfectly managed on the correct medications that have almost no side effects. It's been truly great, and now that I'm stable it's time to start the ascent into the RPC philosophy. I'm immensely thankful that the Lord does not abandon us in our rough patches. He's there all the time. Even when we can't see or feel Him.
Anyway, an introduction. Feel free to ask questions. I look forward to getting to know you all and starting this self-improvement journey.
Best!
