Hi Ladies!

Based on previous discussions on the RPW sub from this post and this post by u/beezy__, I have spent some time the past couple of weeks on reading up on all that I could about Discord and finally set up a private server. I have tested it out and it should be good to go :)

Note that this server is independent of and separate from this subreddit. The server is unaffiliated with and not endorsed by the mods here on /r/RedPillWomen and the server is not subject to the rules of this subreddit.

Below you will find:

  • 6 steps on how to get started with Discord and joining the server
  • A lot of details about my thoughts so far on the setup of the server. Sorry for the infinitely long post! I have tried to include everything so that it is open for discussion. (In advance, be aware that English is not my mother tongue, so I apologize for the misspelling and I hope there won't be too many misunderstandings... Also, I am not certain about everything regarding the IRC chat and some of the below might be inaccurate, so please correct me on it and I will edit this post.).
  • Some ideas on how to avoid doxxing, which I hope you read before you access the Discord server, but note that I am no expert on the matter, so use your common sense like always. One of the biggest risks with chatting and using Discord is the risk of getting doxed, so I have tried to make the server as private as possible. (For those interested, you can read about a private Discord server setup here)

Why a Discord server?

  • There have been talk about it for a while, so I thought to give it a try
  • An alternative to IRC as a place for RPW-redditors to talk about anything on your mind with other RPW-redditors
    • Opportunity for those who are new to RPW to ask simple questions and get some help at starting up and finding their way around the subreddit
    • An opportunity to get some feedback/help on writing a post to the RPW subreddit, before posting.
  • An alternative to IRC which is more attractive on several platforms (Browser, mobile, windows…)
  • A more private chat setup than IRC, where it is possible to filter out trolls by not allowing everyone access/membership
  • On Discord members will be returning with the same username, and it is possible to add friends and build relationships and have private conversations.
  • With members returning with the same username, members can be block/kicked/banned permanently from the server
  • You can get notifications when people are chatting, and see how many is online, instead of having to check the IRC channel regularly
  • Messages are kept/saved in the channel's/chat room's history, just like on Facebook Messenger, and you can always read the history, join in on the conversations, and reread good parts again later.

Access and membership to the server

Here follow the present steps on how to get access and membership (an assigned role) to the private server with bullets underneath containing reflections on this process and on the server setup. Everything is open for discussion

Step 1:
To get access to the server you need to klick on the link to the server.

  • (I will edit this post in a couple of days and put the link here, so that your comments are taken into account before the server is accessible by anyone)

Step 2:
The link will redirect you to Discord with the opportunity to either log in or create a user.

  • Unless you already have a Discord user. Please read the "Personal security" part below before completing any of the further steps!

Step 3:
Log in (with your special RP dedicated Discord account) and accept the invitation to the server. Now you have access to the server, but you are not yet a member (you do not yet have a role).

  • The server is made private. This means that the server will be accessible for anyone who clicks on the server link, but without membership/a role you will only be able to see the "Public-welcome-channel" with a welcome message, and NOT be able to view any other channels (chat rooms) or view/engage in any chats.
  • The "Public-welcome-channel" will be discreet and not indicate any relation to TRP. It will also guide you through these next steps

Step 4:
Write me a private message here on Reddit containing your Discord name and tag (e.g. Mine would be: "WSOH#1167"). Also include your gender in the message if you want (See step 5. Once you have an assigned role with a gender connected it can't be changed again, and will be visible for everyone with the server access link)

  • This step will help to filter out unwanted and trolls, since only those who have read this post on the RPW sub and know my Reddit username will be able to complete this step.
  • But it means I will be the only person who knows both your Reddit and Discord username, and it will require that you trust me with this information :( (It is in itself a form of doxing. See the info on personal security below)
  • It might take some time before I see your message, perhaps hours or days, but please be patient. I will not forget you.

Step 5:
You will be assigned a Discord server role (membership) if you have been a member of Reddit for more than 1 month, and THEN you will be able to view everything on the server.

  • I thought this "1-month-rule" could be a way of filtering out trolls and preventing banned members from just creating another Reddit+Discord user
  • This rule can always be changed, and maybe we just have to test it out and see how it goes? Maybe change it to 3 months or even 6 months if needed, or maybe just create a separate channel just for those new Reddit members.. I remember when I just found RPW I really felt a need to talk with other red pillers about it, so I hope the "1-month-rule" will be enough to keep trolls out, so that new members will not have to wait for so long to participate in the chat.. Any thoughts on this?
  • The server roles: (So far, the roles are inspired by the flairs on this subreddit, but other suggestions are welcome. What do you think about the gender thing?)
    • Administrator (yellow)
    • Moderator (Orange)
    • Female member (Pink)
    • Male member (Blue)
    • Member (Purple. Unknown/private gender)

Step 6:
You must wait 10 minutes before you can post anything/chat on the server

  • You really gotta' be patient to get into the server. Hopefully only those who know what the server is about (and what gold will be waiting, hehe) are willing to wait that long

Personal security, privacy and doxing

Create a new dedicated RP account on Discord for this purpose only, and choose a username that IS NOT the same username as your Reddit account!!!! (Don't mention your RPW-related Reddit username on the server chat, don't mention your Discord username/tag here on Reddit).

  • This will minimize the risk of doxing.

Avoid doxing:
Using Discord is at your own risk! like with any other social media or site you sign up for. But for the sake of your own and others' security you should know how to avoid doxing:

  • Read about personal security and how to avoid doxing in this sidebar post
  • Since anyone can access the server you should assume the worst-case scenario that even non-RPW might eventually read the chat, and don't share personal information! This includes:
    • Your real name, other aliases or usernames,
    • Adress, phone number, credit card number
    • E-mail
    • Be careful when sharing private pictures, fotos..
    • Etc…

User settings on Discord:

You should:

  • Check your user settings on Discord before entering the server, and preferably consider:
    • Choosing who you want to be able to send you private/direct messages and add you as a friend.
    • Disabling accounts connected with your Discord account (Facebook, Steam, Twitter..) (mostly relevant if you download Discord to Windows, or if you have used Discord before)
    • Enabling 2FA (Two-Factor Authentication). This seems a bit complicated, but Discord guides you through it really well. You can read about it here
    • Other personal settings you prefer, e.g. Changing voice and video settings. This is not needed, but It might make you feel more comfortable. It did for me.
  • (Discord logs everything and can use the data as they please according to their privacy policy, just as Reddit and any other site you sign up to... I just had to mention it anyway)

What can others generally see/hear about you on Discord?
When using Discord, all that people can see (friends or not) is:

  • Your avatar and username
  • The servers you have in common
  • Friends you have in common
  • When you are granted access to the server by clicking on the link and accepting the invitation, all others who also have access to the server will be able to see your Discord username
  • People with the link to the server has access and can see your assigned role (and gender!) and nickname (if you chose to have a nickname)
  • There will only be text chats/channels on the server, no voice channels (So don't be afraid that people might hear you when you open Discord :)). This will minimize doxing, as people tend to share personal information unintentionally through voice chats

Others can't see:

  • Your personal information (email, IP address, etc.). This is not displayed by Discord to any users
  • That the server chat revolves around RPW/TRP. This will not be visible to anyone but members of the server
  • The usernames of the people with access to the server unless they too themselves have access
  • Which servers you have access to, unless they themselves have access to this server

Other considerations:

Administration/moderation: I won't moderate the server so much, and there are no other moderators yet (the moderators on this subreddit are, as mentioned, not involved with this server), so please try to keep the tone and not post any personal information on the server <3. (Admins and mods on the server are required to have 2FA enabled)

The server name!!: Because of this previous discussion the name of the server so far is: "Ladies Online Book Club". What do you think? Any other suggestions? :D

Channel themes: There are several chat rooms (channels) on the server with possible themes/topics. Any specific topics you would like? E.g. Cooking, books, memes, venting, music.. It is always possible to add channels later..

Nicknames on the server: ATM it is possible to change your nickname on the server, to your flair here on Reddit for example

TL;DR: Have set up a private Discord server for us RPW-redditors (independent of this subreddit and unrelated with its mods). This post includes steps on how to get access to the server, some info/tips on personal security, and a lot of considerations I hope to get your feedback on.
