Hi ladies! I need some advice about how much I should charge for a 1st grader in e-learning this year but I need to add some background information first.

I work at a restaurant a few houses down from me, and across the restaurant lives a 28 year old woman with 4 kids (2, 6, 11, & 13). We often drink/hang out together because she used to work at that restaurant and most of the workers there all live on the same street.

So this woman gets drunk, really drunk. Every night. She spends a lot of money on food and clothes. She hasn’t been working for the last few months (her words) “because I don’t need to right now. I have a lot of savings.”

I’ve tried to talk to her about it but she only talks about it when she’s drunk. She’s like, “I’m so depressed. I’m at the lowest moment in my life right now.” And she’ll talk about how hard it was to move here from El Salvador, how her mother hates her guts, how she’s a bad mother and she doesn’t know what she’s doing. I want to tell her to stop getting drunk, stop spending so much, start working again, stop hanging out with 20 year olds. But I feel like as a 20 year old it will feel weird me telling her that. Like out of place and I don’t want to offend her. I just feel like I would be offended if I was almost 30 and a 20 something year old was trying to tell me how to handle my life. Even though she needs to hear all of that.

And I just want to add these two things before I ask about how much to charge. There is a staple stuck in the 1st graders head doing I don’t even know what. She showed it to me and she isn’t going to the doctor for it because they have no insurance and she doesn’t know how to take it out. Another time I dropped of cookies at her house and her daughters (2 and 6) opened the door to me (a complete stranger) and nobody else was home.

So yeah. The 1st grader is struggling learning how to read. So I would really appreciate any tips or favorite tricks you have for kids learning how to read. Or any books you loved for that. As well as suggestions about how much I should charge. She found out I was considering helping kids with e learning and has been begging me to do it ever since. I really want to help.

Also a very random note: I started my laser hair removal treatments! Yay!
