I need some outside perspective from you wonderful advise givers.
Backstory: I was traveling for work a few months ago and just finished a month long break. I've started a new project that has me working 11 hour days five days a week with about an hour or two on a day off.
In short, I feel like work is consuming my life. I don't pretend to enjoy working. I've explained it to my SO and friends that what makes me happy will not pay the bills. I know I need an income and I've chosen the most interesting way to do that, but it doesn't make me happiest that I can be.
I'm fortunate that my boyfriend has a similar schedule and he understands the strain our jobs place on us. We both make an effort be together even if we are exhausted.
Here is where I need help: I enjoyed my break from work so much that I just can't get back into the swing of it. When I was home everyday I would bake, clean, make dinner, decorate. I would make my SO coffee in the morning, see him off to work, and start my day. I was so happy and not stressed about anything. The stress of work is minimally affecting my relationship, but on my side, if that makes sense. I've become snappy at times and I feel like I'm letting myself go.
I always apologize and I've explained to him that I am trying to adjust to working so intensely again and coping with not seeing him as frequently as I was. But I'm tired of having to apologize or feel guilty about my behavior.
How can I change this? How do you all balance work and home? Do you enjoy work and if not how do you convince yourself to like it?
I've tried other jobs, more 9-5 but I didn't like those either. I do consider leaving my career path and doing something easier but the money I'm making is so good and I do like what I'm doing, but it is so exhausting.
